About the Artist
Born in Mississippi in 1915, McKinley Morganfield got the name Muddy Waters because he played in a creek as a boy. He grew up immersed in the Delta blues, and was first recorded by archivist Alan Lomax. In 1943 he moved to Chicago, working in a factory by day and playing the clubs by night. It didn t take him long to get noticed, and started off in the studio as a session guitarist, before emerging as an artist in his own right. His major hits came in the fifties, with I m Your Hoochie Coochie Man , I Just Want to Make Love to You , I m Ready , Mannish Boy and the iconic I ve Got My Mojo Working . He is widely credited with being the father of Chicago Blues, and the inspiration behind the British Blues explosion of the 60s. He was listed at No 17 in Rolling Stone s greatest artists of all time
