In 1949 Fats Domino recorded the song "The Fat Man" & instantly reached no.2 in the R&B charts. There followed a few other successful numbers before he also took the pop charts by storm in 1955. During the Rock & Roll boom Fats Domino's name was mentioned in the same breath as those of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry & Bill Haley. His recording success & extended tours were just phenomenal. The public Idolised the congenial & chubby little man for he was able to guarantee the best inentertainment, plain & simple. Between 1955 & 1968 Fats Domino produced Hit after hit, no fewer than 66 songs reached the billboard charts. Nor was his popularity confined to the USA, He was one og the most sucessful entertainers of his time world-wide. In the United Kingdom he had close to 20 songs in the hit parades.
