Born in Mississippi in 1917, John Lee Hooker only rose to prominence after the Second World War when he moved to Detroit. His popularity grew quickly once he started playing the clubs, and he was noted as one of the first electric guitar bluesmen. His first hit Boogie Chillen , released on Modern Records, hit the No 1 spot in the R&B charts. Since then, he has had numerous hits, has had his songs featured in major Hollywood films (The Blues Brothers) and has been covered by some of the world s greatest rock bands. Two of his songs ( Boogie Chillen & Boom Boom ) are in Rolling Stones 500 Songs That Shaped Rock n Roll
