More than 35 years after Purple Rain was released in June 84, comes this tantalising 4-CD box set, which traces the history of the extraordinary songs that make up the record, as performed live by Prince and his various bands.

DISC ONE, features rehearsals for the remarkable benefit show Prince and a pre-Revolution ensemble (featuring many members who would go onto become the aforementioned group) gave in August 1983 at the First Avenue Club, almost a year before the Purple Rain album was released This became the first time any songs from the upcoming LP were played live. However, the three tracks from the album performed on the night were the actual versions later used on PR. The rehearsals for this show however, which, remarkably, were broadcast live by a local FM station, featured entirely different versions of several songs that would later crop up on Purple Rain, and it can be stated with some authority that this CD contains the very first airings of anything from this legendary work.

DISC TWO & THREE in the set contains the full concert Prince gave at the Carrier Dome, Syracuse, New York, on 30th March 1985, while on the Purple Rain tour, on which he was backed by the now newly named Revolution, which remains one of the finest dates performed on this jaunt, that ran from November 4th 1984 to April 7th 1985, spanning the entire US, but, apart from 2 dates in Toronto, Canada, ventured no further. DISC FOUR finalises this magnificent collection with a superb compilation featuring every track from The Purple Rain album, in chronological order, taken from various concerts and television shows that Prince gave between 1984 and 1990
